Important: ThumbGen requires a PC with Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/2008/7 and Microsoft .NET Framework v3.5SP1 installed (can be downloaded for free here).

• Check for updates is now possible from inside the application (this feature is in a beta phase, please report if any issues)
• No more installation required (you can uninstall old version) simply download the archive, unzip it somewhere and, from time to time, press the "Check for updates" button to be sure you are up-to-date.

• Automatic movie detection is much better (improved default keywords)
• Movie detection can be based either on the folder name or the movie filename
• Bug fixed when some images could not be loaded (invalid metadata)
• A bit faster search (when more than one collector is selected)
• Save/restore user options
• Added option to skip entire folder during processing
• Updated main window log with details about the processing status
• Added possibility to select a thumbnail for a folder that has no movies inside (folder.jpg); quite useful for series root folder

 Note: Until I am ready with the autoupdate mechanism please uninstall (Add/Remove Programs) previous version before installing a new one. I hope that soon I am able to host the ClickOnce app somewhere and then it will do autoupdate on startup.

• It is possible now to reuse same thumbnail for all movies inside a folder (quite useful for series)
• Switch on/off folders recursive folders processing
• Switch on/off prompt to adjust keywords before each search
• Improved generation of keywords used for the automatic search attempt (if the prompting before each search is turned off)
• GUI changes/improvements (splash, tooltips)
• The TVDB.com results include season number (if available)
• For each result it is possible to jump to IMDb.com and/or the provider website to get infos about the movie

WDTV ThumbGen 0.2b released!

I wrote a simple app to collect/generate thumbnails for WDTV and I was thinking maybe it can help others too.

The app is not touching existing video/subtitle files, only places the selected poster/cover near the movie, as .jpg, having same name as the movie file.

Generated thumbnails are 200x300 (max. 70KB) and can be chosen from amazon.com, themoviedb.org and/or thetvdb.com.
It basically scans files in all selected folders and based on the movie filename tries to perform a search.
If the default search is not retrieving optimal results the user can refine/adjust the keywords and resubmit the search.

I wrote it for me, so I do not guarantee 100% satisfaction for everybody (it is a beta version, a draft)

If there is interest (from your side) and time (from mine) we can think about adding providers/extensions.

PS: The app is a classical ClickOnce distribution (no extra registry/files) and can be uninstalled easily from Add/Remove Programs.
